DR. SCOTT DONA, MD

Pediatrician Specializing in Developmental & Behavioral Health

Dr. Scott Dona is a compassionate and dedicated general pediatrician with a special focus on developmental, behavioral, and mental health care for children and adolescents. Currently practicing in an outpatient primary care setting, Dr. Dona has seen firsthand the urgent need for accessible psychiatric and behavioral health care and is committed to providing comprehensive support for his patients and their families.

Dr. Dona earned his Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Towson University before completing his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. He then pursued three years of pediatric residency training at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, NJ, where he gained extensive experience in general pediatrics, neurodevelopmental disorders, and child mental health care.

Mental health concerns are rising in children and adolescents, yet many do not receive the care they need due to limited resources, long wait times, and gaps in follow-up care. With 1 in 5 youth experiencing a mental health issue every year, Dr. Dona recognizes the importance of early intervention, comprehensive evaluation, and ongoing support.

Some of the most common behavioral and mental health conditions he addresses include:

  • ADHD & Attention Disorders – Assessing and managing symptoms to improve focus and learning.

  • Anxiety & Depression – Providing early intervention, medication management, and referrals for therapy.

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) – Performing ADOS-2 autism evaluations to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning.

  • Bullying, Trauma & Behavioral Concerns – Helping families navigate emotional and social challenges.

As a primary care physician, Dr. Dona is comfortable initiating treatment with medications for common behavioral health concerns, including ADHD, anxiety, and depression. However, he understands that many cases require specialized psychiatric care, which has traditionally been difficult to access due to long wait lists and fragmented care models.

Dr. Dona is trained in ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, 2nd Edition), the gold standard assessment for autism diagnosis. He provides comprehensive developmental evaluations to help families get accurate diagnoses and early intervention services tailored to their child's needs.

Dr. Dona’s approach goes beyond just treating symptoms—he believes in whole-person care, addressing not just physical health but also emotional, social, and developmental well-being. His goal is to ensure that every child and adolescent has access to the behavioral and mental health support they need to thrive.
